Research on the Free Web Tutorial: 5. Other Issues

Learning Outcomes

At the end of Module #5, students will be able to:

  • Solve the technical problems related to software nesting and file size/printing
  • Understand some of the basic social, moral, ethical, & legal considerations surrounding Internet use.

And finally...

Sometimes, when we're paying attention to one thing, we miss other, important things.  Here's a classic example:

In this now classic study* by Daniel J Simons and Christopher F Chabris, "46% failed to notice the unexpected event."

There are big picture things happening in the background of the Internet that you probably never learned to pay attention to.  We make assumptions and take a lot of things for granted, and some  happenings have more significance than you realize.  So this section of the tutorial offers up a smattering of things that deserve a few moments of your attention. (Because really, if there's a gorilla wandering around the back hallways of the Internet, don't you want to know about it?)
