Research on the Free Web Tutorial: 5. Other Issues

Learning Outcomes

At the end of Module 5, students will be able to:

  • Solve the technical problems related to software nesting and file size/printing.
  • Understand some of the basic social, moral, ethical, & legal considerations surrounding Internet use.

And finally...

Sometimes, when we're paying attention to one thing, we miss other, important things. Here's a classic example:

In this now classic study* by Daniel J Simons and Christopher F Chabris, "46% failed to notice the unexpected event."

There are big picture things happening in the background of the Internet that you probably never noticed. We make assumptions and take a lot of things for granted, and some events and processes have more significance than we realize. This section of the tutorial offers up a smattering of things that deserve a few moments of your attention. (Because really, if there's a gorilla wandering around the back hallways of the Internet, don't you want to know about it?)
