Library Safari Journal: Tour Conclusions and Imaginings

We visited the library/learning commons spaces at Ottawa, Avila, and William Jewell to show you how different choices in space arrangement lead to vastly different environments.

Drawing Comparisons Between Spaces

Overall, which library space was your favorite? Why?

"Ottawa. Their space was really used right and they had the two classrooms that could easily become one big one."

"Ottawa mixed with Avila."

Overall, which library space was your least favorite? Why?

"Avila, only because their stuff was cluttered in the middle of the room."

"Elements of William Jewell."

Imagining the Future of De Paul Library

Using the different library spaces for inspiration, what would you want our library to look like after renovation?

"Spacious, and a fun environment where students can come in and do a lot of events in the school."

"Spacious with a methodical flow. Study rooms, social pods, movable furniture but a few stations that cannot be moved such as desktop stations or a couple of large desks (these can be moved in reality but will be harder to move unless we need to for events)."

What five words would you want decision-makers to focus on as the vision for the future library space?

"Space. Colors. History. Fun. Open."

"Universal Design. Open. Pragmatic. Accomodating."
